Pain Relievers or Natural Approach?

Headaches and neck pain

There are many types of pain relievers available for headache relief. Non-prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) remedies include aspirin, ibuprofen and acetaminophen.

And then… there are countless numbers of prescription-strength medications that are used to prevent headache symptoms (i.e., migraine symptoms) or to “arrest” symptoms after they appear.

Of course as chiropractors, we don’t advise either for or against any medications. However, we do want you to be aware that even over-the-counter medications have been known to carry serious risks to your health, and prescription medication literature contains long lists of possible side effects. So before taking any medication, we like to caution you to read the accompanying literature to be aware of just what you are taking.

Headaches are one of the top reasons, along with back and neck pain, for patients beginning care in our office. Many of our patients tried numerous drug and non-drug approaches and never found long-lasting or even permanent relief until they started chiropractic care.

Often, there is interference in the nervous system that results from a spinal vertebra being “out of place.” This interference prevents the nerves in the area of the misaligned vertebra from functioning properly. With headache sufferers, the misaligned vertebra is often in the upper cervical spine (neck area).

Chiropractors are trained to locate and correct spinal misalignments that are responsible for nerve interference. After the interference is removed, the nerves can function correctly and headaches often resolve themselves completely!

Your body is truly a "well-oiled” machine that is perfectly capable of healing on its own when your nervous system is maintained in “tip top” shape.

If you or someone you love is experiencing frequent or chronic headache pain or any other type of chronic pain – please let us know or have them give us a call. Every day, we see patients with headaches that haven’t responded to previous treatments. And every day… we see that chiropractic care can make a difference in the quality of their lives. It can do the same for you too!

Dr. Joseph Asks some important questions of interest to Cincinnati residents - Chiropractor Cincinnati Dr. Joseph Asks...

What's the difference between sick care and health care?
Sick care is largely about relieving or suppressing symptoms. Health care is about improving performance. While sick care is about how you feel, health care is about how you function. Sick care is what you do to treat an obvious problem, and health care is what you do to avoid the problem and advance your well-being.
What's the difference between a "good" drug and a "bad" drug?
As a chiropractor, I see the use of many drugs (legal or illegal) as merely symptom treating. Worse, virtually every drug produces unwanted effects. The effects of chiropractic are largely positive effects. If you're a Cincinnati parent, consider carefully before giving your child a cough medication, cold remedy or pain reliever so this sort of question doesn't arise in the first place.
